As former Homer Electric rate setting committee member it was quickly obvious that Rural Electric Coops were established outside of standard gov't or corporation disclosure rules. Because Pres Roosevelt wanted to protect this new deal program from opposition interference. Works now to protect REAs from oversight. Don't believe me? Try asking them for what is paid to execs. At hEA we finally pried ot the pay for gen'l manager which was more then the what was paid the prime minister of Japan. Utilities not only pay high but also provide golden parachutes for departing managers with non-disclosure agreements. This is a r3ason I thought Anchorage should have absorbed Chugach Electric, not the other way around. Also observe that the constant war between the utilities always seem to lead to expensive alternatives. Most of the HEA/MEA vs CEA fights have been won by Chugach because the power agreements favor the powerful. The atty fees are astronomical.

I’ve been musing this for a long time. Yes the pay structures are outrageous as is the severance and retirement as is all government. Unsustainable. Pers retirement example A. Thank you for shedding light on this sir. I too have a friend that was inside MLP for decades and his take on this was very similar. It’s about to get really ugly here. 🪵, pilotless propane stoves, diesel furnaces, etc. It’s just another example of government grifters, syphophants, good ole boy networks that used to be commonplace here. The rubber is about to hit the road. Rolling blackouts, brownouts, massive infrastructure failures at all public and private facilities etc. Alaska put the cart before the horse for 50 yrs and now they are going to pay the pauper it’s due. Remember Hillcorp

Is a privately held entity. They are not beholden to the general public’s welfare or shareholders neither. They were at the right place at the right time to babysit the dwindling reserves left by BP. They have done yeomans work to keep things alive here. The state in all its wisdom just Decided to fine them 1/2 million for undisclosed violations too. Bite the hand that feeds you Alaska one too many times and see how that works for ya.
