It’s March of 2024, we delivered the majority of our Salmon to Peter Pan in 2023.

AND IM STILL WAITING FOR MY SALMON SETTLEMENT FROM LAST YEAR!!! I’ve talked with many others, who also in February of 2024, are still waiting for their money from Peter Pan seafoods. I’m not sure if it’s everyone, but the majority of people I talked to here, (Sand Point) have said they haven’t seen nothing yet either. The rest that I asked just shrugged their shoulders, looked away and mumbled something under their breath. Never did have to ask what, as all us fisherman have the same thing to say.(though some of our statements may be extremely more honest and vulgar than others). I still get dumbfounded when I again remember what day and year it is with no check still. I literally haven’t been able to land a job since last years salmon season. It’s been a f*#_$@ed up 7 months.

Robbing Paul to pay Peter. The permanent fund money. If that doesn’t send shudders down your spine nothing will. Government knows no bounds when fleecing and extorting and spending other people’s money. ie your PFD. This is how the first ominous domino falls.

What a sad story. I recently read, in what seemed to be a well sourced article, that 80% of the world's fisheries are overfished and depleted. Yet the factory trawlers keep catching more and depressing the price of the product. I know that protectionist trade policies have a bad reputation, but the current trajectory looks unsustainable, and I wonder if the children of the children I know will have ocean fisheries to harvest. Apparently our relatively small scale, sustainable fisheries cannot compete in the short term with the high seas fleet of rapists that have no regard for sustainable practices. And our expectation that the wealth of the sea should be shared among many independent fishers, and carefully managed for the future, rather than concentrated into a few owner's hands in a gold rush grab for short term profits is unrealistic. No wonder some people think there is a war to eliminate the middle class.
